2023

[Nov 29, 2023] Saad Asim has successfully defended his PhD proposal! Saad’s PhD project is to develop novel stimuli-responsive biomaterials to improve growth and graft-host integration of corneal endothelial cells.

[Nov 10, 2023] Dr Rizwan presented an invited seminar in UT Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Biomedical Engineering.

[Nov 9, 2023] Cody Tuftee, PhD student in the lab, wins the People's Choice Award at 2023 MTU 3MT Competition!!!

[Oct 14, 2023] Saad Asim delivers oral presentation in 2023 BMES conference in Seattle. He presented his research work the fabrication of hydrogel for improved 3D culture.

[Sep 02, 2023] Cody Tuftee joins Rizwan Lab as a PhD student.

[Oct 21, 2023] Rizwan Lab’s invited article is now published in Trends in Biotechnology. We discuss emerging granular hydrogel bioinks to improve biological function in bioprinted constructs.

[Sep 18, 2023] Megan and Bridget, Michigan Tech BME undergraduate students, joins Rizwan lab as research interns.

[Sep 14, 2023] NEW FUNDING: We are super excited to share that we're awarded 5-year R01 grant NIH National Eye Institute (NEI) to develop bioengineered corneal endothelial graft. We will develop new stimuli-response biomaterial to study and improve the integration of transplanted corneal endothelial cells with the host cornea.

[Aug 25, 2023] NEW FUNDING: Rizwan Lab receives first ever NIH award!!! NIH NIDDK funded our 3-year proposal (R15 award) to develop complex liver organoids using bioprinting approach with multi-bioink materials. The proposed research focuses on developing a new technology that will provide conducive, cell-type-specific signaling to co-cultured liver cells, which will enable the growth of bile ducts in liver organoids.

[Jun 27, 2023] Shajia Afrin joins Rizwan lab as Research Associate. Shajia has a PhD in Biochemistry from China and postdoc from South Korea.

[Feb 18, 2023] Congratulation to Saad Asim on publishing his first paper, a review article titled "Advances in Gelatin Bioinks to Optimize Bioprinted Cell Functions" in Advanced Healthcare Materials.

[Jan 06, 2023] Asma Talib Qureshi joins Rizwan lab as a PhD student.
